CHAPTER 1. THE KNOCK AT THE DOOR.
It was the time of snowfall and I was sitting near to my
window, looking outside while listening to the music. There I saw a puppy stuck
into the snow. The moment I tried to walk I saw a boy helping him out. He
cleared the snow from his fur then wrapped him into a shawl and took him away
with himself. It was good to see that
there are still people out there to help others. After that I went back into my
novel. The day passed by, and I was going to fire some woods into the furnace to spend a warm
night. I was done with my dinner and was sitting on my wheelchair, covered with
a shawl and the novel into the hands and then someone knocked at my door and
that knock changed everything in my life. My maid opened the door, someone left
that same puppy with a note, "it's cold outside keep him warm
please!" I was looking out of the
window and it was the same person who helped the dog in the morning. I asked my
maid Meera, to get the dog in and I wrapped him in a shawl and kept him in my
lap, sitting near to the fireplace.
Today, the morning sun seemed to be different. I was happy
with the puppy, "Bhalu" (he was as black as bear so I named him
Bhalu). I was sitting near the window, reading novel and again someone knocked
at the door, Meera opened the door and she found another note written, "To
the brown eyed girl". That hit me a bit that how that person knew about my
eyes? Did he see me? Does he know me? I opened the note, "thank you for
keeping him, I know you will keep him happy ". Now I wanted to reciprocate
but how, so I spoke to Bhalu. I looked out of window and there I saw was a boy standing
at a distance, waving at me, the same boy who helped Bhalu, who left him, who
left the note for me as well! Bhalu recognized him too and started to bark. I
smiled and then he disappeared. I felt something, something that I never had
felt before. Being on wheelchair took
everything away from me, friends, family everything. I started a new life where I was having no
one except for me for myself and then Bhalu came, I found a 24×7 partner and
his secret admirer 'the unknown boy'.
It was Sunday morning, Meera got an emergency call and she
rushed off leaving the door half open, before I could go and close it Bhalu ran
out into the snow. I called him tone times but he was happy playing. I knew it
was not good for his health so I stepped out to catch him home. Last night the
snow fall was too heavy and all the roads were totally jammed. My wheelchair too got stuck into it. It was
pale cold, I was shivering and he too was not doing well now into the snow. I
called him but he was already stuck into his own dug hole. He was weeping and I
was trying to make my wheelchair move but the more I was trying the more I was
becoming helpless. His weeping was continuous and it was hurting me seeing him
this way. I felt like failing, like being so irresponsible friend of his so I
tried to walk. I stood up by taking the help of wheel chair and the moment I
took my 1st step I fell on the ground and he was weeping and I was just looking
at him. Suddenly everything became blur to me and all faded into black in front
of my eyes. The next when I gained my consciousness I found myself on the bed
and Bhalu sitting near to me. I woke up and adjusted myself on the bed, Bhalu
started to bark and I there I could hear footsteps coming towards me. He was
the same boy, came forward and asked me, “you feeling better now? I reciprocated
with a little stammering, “Yeah.” That seemed to be an awkward moment and I
broke the silence, “thank you for saving our lives”. He smiled and was ready to
walk away and I was looking for my wheelchair, Bhalu understood my action and
he stopped him by pulling his pants with his mouth. The boy turned back and
looked at me, “anything else I can do for you?” I pointed out at the wheelchair
and said yes! He smiled again and pulled the wheelchair towards me. I tried to
move out of bed but failed. He went furious and grabbed my hands saying, “Let
me help you”. He helped me to sit on the chair and then we both were looking at
each other silently. This time he broke the silence and asked, “Where you
actually want to go”? I reciprocated, “downstairs.” He just looked into my eyes
saying, “Sorry for this but I have to do” and lifted me up into his arms and I
was just glancing at his charming face. We started to walk and I stopped him
pointing at the novel that was there on my table. I took the book and we moved
out of the room as we were coming downstairs he asked, “Where is your maid?” I
was surprised that how does he know about her, I gave him a bad stare and he laughed,
saying, “I left the letter I saw her that day.” I replied, “She has to leave in
hurry due to some issues.” He answered in a single word, “oh.” He lifted me down on the couch and went back
to brought my chair. He then made me sit on the chair, “you comfortable now?”
“Yeah! Thanks.” I said and I really did not wanted him to leave so I asked him
for coffee and he didn’t say no (that means he said yes! oops happy me). I went
to the kitchen and Bhalu followed me. I put some milk on the gas to boil and I
was going to grab the sugar box but I lose the grip and it fell on the ground.
The unknown guy rushed into the kitchen and he saw the sugar all over on the
floor, we both laughed and he came inside and made the coffee. While the milk was boiling we
had a little conversation. I asked him, “May I know your good name?” he smiled
and said, “Saurabh, and you?” “Riya”,
the coffee was ready and we came back into the hall.
